Call MCM owners, Guy Malul and Dorit Cohen and tell them to meet with representatives of Renters United Philadelphia and take immediate action to address pest infestations!

For over a year and a half, tenants of MCM buildings across Philadelphia have called on their landlords — Guy Malul and Dorit Cohen — to meet with them about the unsafe, unhealthy, and substandard conditions in MCM buildings.

Tenants in multiple MCM buildings are facing cockroach and rodent infestations in their kitchens, sleeping areas, and ceilings, keeping them up at night and contaminating their food and cooking materials. Other tenants live in units with structural concerns like sinking floors, leaking ceilings, and sparking electrical sockets. MCM has refused to repair the elevators in four buildings, risking the health and safety of elderly tenants and tenants with disabilities. Moreover, despite all these problems and more, MCM has continued to raise tenants’ rent year after year — even throughout a pandemic when many tenants faced chronic unemployment and unforeseen illness.

MCM tenants deserve the opportunity to speak directly with Guy Malul and Dorit Cohen, the owners of MCM management, about their concerns, and to find ongoing and sustainable solutions to these chronic problems. However, until now, their requests have been met with silence. 

We can’t wait! The building conditions are already an emergency. Help us keep the pressure up on MCM by calling the owners to 1) renew our demand that they meet with representatives of Renters United NOW; and 2) take immediate action to address the health and safety concerns in their buildings.

  1.   Hire a professional, OUTSIDE exterminators to do a monthly extermination for rodents and insects.  We want these exterminations to begin with 5224 Wayne Ave. where there is significant mice infestation in certain units and 
  1.  Commit to meeting with a group of MCM tenants to discuss all the issues we’ve been bringing up, including broken elevators, rent increases and shoddy repairs

If they argue or say “we’re doing exterminations, we need tenants to keep their apartments clean:”  If you were, then people wouldn’t still  have mice and bedbugs.  We don’t need traps, we need regular, monthly exterminations.  Can we count on you to do that?
